Great choice. A big-name actor, but I can see him being a really good Doctor. A great actor who plays believable but over-the-top characters. Older (which is good) and plenty of presence.

Hopefully we can get past sexual tension being the centrepoint of dr who and have some darker material to get stuck in to. I would love to see Capaldi bring a more foreboding and sinister edge in.

Oh I dunno.... I liked Eggleston and Tennant to begin with, but was glad to see the back of them... especially Tennant. Matt Smith I've thoroughly enjoyed as The Doctor, but he just didn't get so many good stories.

Yes, I think he suffered from writing. When he was announced, I thought, yes, he'll be good, if a little young.

I hope they write the right stuff for Capaldi. If not, then I don't see myself bothering to watch...
