Not fussed but something in carbon, as I already have a steel.

However, funds being tight it is not going to happen sigh

I fancied a Defy 1 this year but Giant didn't have an unsold one my size in the UK, so may try again next year. Vim too old and creaky to want something to too extreme a riding position, or sharp geometry, so the whole Sportive thing is ideal for me. I doubt I'd go any quicker or be any more comfortable on some Carbonalgoalized at 5 times the price, so my road bike dreams are quite modest and restrained.

I'm still trying to work out what the budget is....

Not sure either, just looking for the best bike I can get without paying out for a brand name as such.

This is the year I become a MAMIL (40) so need a treat to soften the blow. I can't afford my dream sports car, but road bike is a different matter..

I'm also thinking of cube listening HPC SLT, but the money is getting more serious, so how about dropping the di2 and get the SL version with mechanical dura ace??

Thanks for the ideas so far. I hope you all have a good Christmas and we'll see where this leads..

I have a strange attraction to this bike. Can't touch that price though, shame the frameset isn't available, although there are still some 2012 Hi-mod frames about.

Contact Cannondale, they will sell you the frame and fork. If you already have a Cannondale you can part exchange it too as part of their upgrade scheme. If I ever want to upgrade my CAAD frame to something carbon, I would go straight to Cannondale and part exchange it for their latest and greatest.

I saw this reviewed in the current issue of Cyclist mag. It goes straight to the top of my fantasy wishlist:

They also review the Trek Domane, which also sounds like it's very lovely indeed.

I just want approval for a low spec specialized Tarmac.
Financial controller isn't budging though.
