My grandparents used to kindly pick me up from secondary school & drive me home. It was always impromptu & so kind. But I was always embarrassed when Grandpa used to beep every cyclist "just to let him know I am there" as these were usually my mates cycling home !

The only time I was beeped recently, was when some incompetent clio driver in a line of traffic behind me blindly followed the car in front of her, overtaking me - into the path of oncoming traffic. Somehow that was my fault.

How about this obnoxious selfish woman whose BMW is her pride and joy?

She needs to get a life.
Maybe someone should tell her that driving over curbs to park might damage it too.

Good old daily telelaugh.

I suppose if they relied on facts alone they wouldn't be able to so much as fill a crisp packet let alone an entire broadsheet.

I'm a left-leaning liberal who read the Telegraph for many years because it had the best writers, often the best coverage of international news and (allowing for its slightly right-wing weltanschauung) the best domestic insight too.

I weaned myself off it when I began to hear its thinking in my own speech. I'm glad to have settled back into the tweed-and-elbow-patches of my political heartland, but I do miss the Torygraph terribly.

Despite being politically a billion miles from my most rabid thought, it remains just about the epitome of a quality daily.

But as a liberal who embraces other opinions, I value your thoughts too.

I have quite a steep climb on my way home from work. It has speed bumps on it and cars parked on the other side - the downside. I was grinding my way up it one night when a car came down far too fast. He intended taking the bump at my side in the centre of his car, clocked me and pulled over a bit, meaning he took the bump off-centre. There was a huge bang from his car and he started peeping furiously - like it was my fault!
