I thought indicators on cars were a pretty neat idea - you can alert others on the road what you intend to do. The Highway Code clearly states that it is a safety requirement, and we have to do this on our driving test. So what about the drivers (and there are a lot) who don't do this?. Are they too important?, forgetful or are they just peanuts? The latter I feel.

So there you are approaching a roundabout - on your right is some bonehead in a silver car (maybe even a blue one). Which way is he going?...nobody knows, especially not you, so you slow to a crawl just in case. But NO, he turns left leaving you wobbling like a nob, going nowhere. Another new craze is sitting at traffic lights with their footbrake on, tail-lights ablaze for up to five minutes. just another example of driver laziness and bad driving. Taxi drivers are top of the pops for this one.

Is it just me or does this selfish and unsociable behaviour piss anyone else off?. To continue this particular theme, I make a case for boiling all transgressors in large vats of their own urine (for starters).

Yes it does piss me off, whether in the car or on a bike. Yes I do try to use mine properly when in the car. Yes I do stick my arm in the air when I'm supposed to on the bike. Yes it pisses me off when other cyclists fail to indicate too.

Nothing I can do about it though, so I'll just have to go on improving my psychic indicator interpretation skills.

Utter rubbish.

They're optional extras and most buyers don't have them.

Clearly you are not aware that if you own a BMW or any 4 wheel drive job you can apply for an indicator exemption certificate. Further if you own anything with Land Rover written on it you can request documentation to prove that you do own the road.

The odd one that always seem to happen is if the road goes round a right hand bend but you can turn off it on the bend so you are sort of going in the same direction but because of the road layout you are definately turning off.

Sitting at the minor road waiting to join you have all these knobs turning off without indicating and leaving you sitting there as you cannot chance it to pull out.

I think it's in the highway code that other road users have to give way to bmws at all times.

Picked up my new bike on thursday, on the test ride within 100 yards of the shop a taxi tried to run me into the kerb, then turned left without indicating. It's funny how you can tell they're gonna do it...

of course we all have senior moment and indicate the wrong way as well dont we ???

Or put the windscreen wipers on

I could rant all day about this and other drivers habits. As a cyclist, I find it a minor irritation. When in the car, it annoys me a bit more. When driving a 40 ton artic it makes my blood boil :cursing:.

There you are approaching a roundabout, and as in the OP, a car is approaching from the right with no indicators on. So you have to assume they are going straight on, across your path. Bring the lorry to a stop and the git turns left! Now if they had the common decency to go to all the bother of indicating, it would save me from having to stop, then get a large lorry moving again. Costing not only time, but fuel.

The other ones that burst my head are the ones who don't know how to indicate when turning right at a roundabout. You see them approaching the roundabout diagonally opposite from you, no indicators. I assume they are going straight on, so on this occassion I don't stop, only to find them turning right and cutting across my path. Either that or they find their path blocked by my lorry and there ensues a trading of horns blaring and a variety of hand signals that aren't in the highway code. Stuff them; if they don't indicate then I'm assuming you are going straight on.

The one that annoys me is when they sit at the red light with no indicators going, then just as the lights start to change they then decide to put them on

giving you very little time to plan your getaway.
But you learn to anticipate these things and it just becomes part of everyday commuting,no point getting stressed over it,after all isn't cycling meant to be relaxing?
