I'm considering a dropper seat post, but remain unsure of what specifications or brands I should be looking at, it needs to be available in a 27.2 seat post.
Can anyone over advice or suggestions.

Gravity Dropper is the one that is the most reliable / needs the least maintainance, Reverb is better when its working but there can be issues with it needing bled. Crank Bros Joplin and Specialized Command Post are similar in this respect with some reliability issues

Never tried (+ none of my riding buddies have them on their bikes) the x-fusion hilo, the Fox DOSS or the Thomson Dropper but the latter one in particular would interest me if the quality is as good as their normal seatposts / stems etc.

Don't think you can get Reverb in that size. Check the Thompson as @zizou suggests, but generally HiLo or Gravity Dropper are the most often recommended in 27.2

Just been looking into this myself after having a go with one.

Thompson are going to be doing a 27.2 dropper with internal cable due to be released soon.

Q – Will you make a 27.2 drop post? What about Stealth?
A – Yes. We are working on a 27.2 dropper style post. Prototypes have been built and testing has started. Shipments will begin in June of 2014. Our “covert” dropper with internal cable routing will be available in May of 2014.
