Lord Mandelson, boring me to tears, has spurred me to have a search on the No.10 petitions pages to see what pops up when you tap in "cyclists". I havent done this in a couple of months so there were loads of new ones popping up. Check out these idiots:

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/bikeroadtax/ Love to see someone "force" someone on a bike. Can just see the transport minister with a cat o nine tails made from cycle chains whipping mondeo-man on the back as he pedals furiously towards the main road. And no, it wouldnt be a fair tax as it still omits several cars and motorbikes who are exempt.

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/CyclePedesDeaths/ An old fave this one. And it seems that the "comments" left directing people to the real figures havent dissuaded someone else from signing. Moron.

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/pedalcyclists/ Check out the blame game! "Any suggestion that UK laws should be changed to make anyone apart from a pedal cyclist being responsible for an accident is a travesty of justice"

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/CyclistsMusic/ Dont have a problem with people being banned from listening to music - as long as this applies to drivers and pedestrians too. ;) I see someone seems to agree with me there.

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/newcyclelaw/ Ok aside from the fact he cannot speel... :sun: Cant see it working when in 2008 there were several serious accidents involving cyclists wearing both here in southampton, 2 died from extensive head injuries, I'm told. I sometimes wonder if drivers have a clue as to the real causes of injury (talking mechanics here, not behaviour).

Some of that will probably get "spammed" I'm sure. So tempted now to set up my own petition demanding that "all cyclists must wear a clown suit as it will get you noticed"

Maybe not. I saw a guy cycling along wearing a bear costume the other day. Just up ahead I saw all these basketball players milling around.

There's an accident waiting to happen, I thought.

Just had a quick browse of the petitions relating to cycling. There are quite a few, rangeing from insane to sensible. What is quite surprising are the low number of signatures whether the petition is sensible or not.
Is it just a sign that the public at large dont about cycling or just dont care in general?

I know. Theres no cohesion is there. They all want it, but word it in such a way that each is slightly different. If someone was generic and everyone took the time to search (junk mail atracts similar amounts on there, too) and all sign the same one it might get more.

Counting up all the different names seems to suggest that its the same people on each petition though, around 200 odd. On the big pro-cycling petitions (which are sometimes promoted in the press as well as here) each petition can attract up to 2000 signatures.
