My car is 3 years old.......registered this month 2012..... and so due for an MOT.
It is (obviously) also due for road tax at the same time.
I took it in for MOT and when they check on their web-site (not accessible to Joe-public) it told them the MOT is not due till Oct' 10th and they are not allowed to MOT it this far in advance. When I told them it was registered end of August they checked and........yes it was BUT.......Vauxhall must have had it is storage (or something) as MOT is DEFINITELY 10th October.
Today I go online to pay road tax (due 31st) and the www.gov web site tells me "you have no MOT" ???
I go back to the garage who tell me again that their website shows it as due Oct.
They also tell me..........
Tthe new DVSA, the old DVLA & VOSA have made one almighty cockup and this is happening regularly.
The upshot is.................I am driving illegally
They will MOT it on Friday even though technically that is illegal (as its more than one month in advance.
The words piss up & brewerey come to mind

Have you sent DVSA a recorded delivery letter telling them of the problem? I would. Or at least a phone call or email, but you would want confirmation they have received the latter.

The DVSA is certainly kicking up a few problems.

You can get an MOT whenever you like.

From .gov

"An MOT lasts for a year. The date it runs out is printed on the last pass certificate.

You can get an MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date.

Example - If your MOT runs out on 15 May, the earliest you can get an MOT to keep the same renewal date for next year is 16 April.

You can get an MOT earlier, but the MOT renewal date for the following year will be different."

TBH I had never heard of the DVSA until 20 minutes ago. There is a phone number on my tax renewal form but when I phoned it, it was a recorded message telling me the number is no longer in use.

I thought that you could MOT it anytime but if it is more than one month before then the MOT period runs from the date of the test.

That's what I thought too! How can it be illegal to test a car before the test is due?

Maybe I have that wrong.............I "thought" he said that but maybe he was just telling me it would only run from that date???

Best just ask the garage again - probably most folks wouldn't want their MoT doing too early, so he may have just been fixated on that rule?

I think there may be a website you can check on, as far as I remember it is 3 years from date of original registration, your V5 should give you that info.

Maybe because the car is only 3 years old and it will be it's First M.O.T?
Shouldn't be.... I bought a 32 month old car late last year, and the dealer put its 1st MOT on it for me as their policy is to give an MOT if the car has less than 5 months till the 'proper' MOT due date (actual due date was 1 March).

I've since had it MOT'd again in June (7 months later) to get the cost and hassle away from christmas time

Yeah, never mind how badly it's maintained or driven, they don't care much as long as it can squish people smoothly and never mind having integrated transport :banghead:
Would you rather get knocked down by a vehicle with or without a front attachment?
