Eccentric Cat

I've been around cats all my life, but the current one has a habit quite new to me.

He likes to be dragged to and fro across our rough tarmac drive. He's about five years old, but this is a new 'like'.

He's always liked a good scratch, much like any other cat, but his favourite (how could I possibly know that?) is to lie on one side and be dragged across the tarmac and stone chips by the scruff of his neck.

This sounds cruel, but it makes him purr like an idling two-stroke. He rolls over after a few drags so I can drag him along on the other side.

It's got so silly that if we meet on the drive, he just walks up and flops onto one side.

Is this something I've just failed to appreciate in other cats, or do I need to seriously sort this cat out with some sort of flea treatment?

Also... (but not while cat is present) I've noticed thrushes dragging small slugs across the tarmac after catching them. It looks very deliberate. They get them in their bill and seem to wipe them both ways several times across the ground, then inspect them and do it a little more before flying off.

Do I need to spend less time at the kitchen window?

Has anyone else noticed these odd behaviours, or do we have magic tarmac?

I think you need to spend less time at the kitchen window.
Less time dragging you cat around.
And more time on the bike!

We had a cat that would happily eat tomato soup, but wouldn't touch fish unless she was at the house over the road where she would get tinned salmon.

Cats are weird and live in a different reality than the rest of us.

In order to hold on to your sanity you must accept that & move on

As for the thrushes, creating extra slime so they slip down easier? (Yum!)

One of the cats where I'm living will only eat while someone watches her. The food bowl is in the toilet, so she regularly has the opportunity to eat while observed.
However she likes a snack at 6.00 in the morning, and comes and wakes me to remind me that my bladder is nearly full. She's usually right!

Next door's cat used to like being beaten with a rolled up newspaper. You could get quite rough with it. He was a big British Blue tom, head like a bull and hard as nails.

.. or drag the cat behind the bike?

We once had a cat that would fall asleep hanging onto the wall. We had that fabric kind of wallcovering that was popular some years ago and she would regularly climb up it. So much so that she would hang there not moving for ages. One evening I realised she was actually sleeping.

My cat will only drink water from a glass next to my bed, not from a bowl. It's fine but slurp slurp in the night can be annoying!

We have a new kitten, which is a hooligan. I've discovered that the best way of getting my teenage son out of bed at the weekends iis to open his bedroom door and let the kitten inside. Then I go downstairs, make a coffee and wait for him to appear, usually less than five minutes later.

I guess the kitten is the feline equivalent of a fragmentation grenade chucked into a room.

Its worth pointing out that an eccentric cat would be completely obedient, and in effect act like a dog.
all cats have their own quirks.
my cat used to wake me up first thing in the morning by chewing my nose. she'd also eat curry, peas and would kill you for a pork chop in gravy.
