I see that Edinburgh City Council have today announced arrangements for the Pope's ride through the town. Things like waste collection and rubbish bins being secured etc. I noticed there was nothing about bicycles so I sent of a wee message to the council:
Now I was half a sleep at the time but the diligent workers of the council understood my point and responded with this
If you are in Edinburgh when the Pope is here, you've been warned. Better to be safe than sorry :-) The police don't have the best reputation when it comes to delicately handeling your pride and joy - not in New York City anyway.
I have just read the arrangements for the Papal visit, namely the making safe of rubbish bins along the Pope's route. Are there any plans to remove bicycles from the route in the name of 'security'? If yes, where would it be considered unwise to leave my bike?
My bicycle represents a considerable investment to me, the lock alone costing £100+ and as such I'd hate to suffer any loss resulting from the City and/or police removing my bicycle should it be attached to street furniture along the route.

I would advise that you do not secure your bicycle to any council street furniture, be that poles or pedestrian guardrail, on any part of the actual processional route including the section all the way up the A702 to Church Hill.
