I am at the beginning of July riding from Edinburgh to home which is just south of Selby, over 3 days with 2 stop overs, the 2nd of these is at a village just outside of Darlington, I am looking for ideas and experiences from people. I rode the Brian Robinson Challenge and Richmond Sportives this year both at Bronze standard.

My original plans have been to head south and stick to the B709 towards Langholm or Brampton, I will be booking into a BandB and carrying as llittle as possible

Biked from Edinburgh to Stillington, 10 miles north of York, last month. I cycled via Innerleithen (camp), B709 to Langholm, minor roads to Longtown (B&B), Carlisle, Penrith, Kirkby Stephen (camp), Tan Hill (see Gallery), Reeth, Leyburn & just east of Ripon - home.

Enjoy the trip.

That's a nice route Paladin what was the camp like at Kirkby stephen?

Hi Spandex

The camp @ Kirkby Stephen was excellent. Only problem I had was remembering my code for the toilet block even tho' I had a small card with it written on. All camp facilities were clean & modern and the location was at the top end of town within walking distance of all services. I had misgivings about not pre-booking as I know the camp is on the Coast to Coast a la Wainwiright, but I had no problem in just turning up.

I rode Edinburgh to Osmotherley over two days on an E2E a few yeas ago. Out of Edinburgh on the A7 to Hawick, we were going to use the minor roads to the East, but the A7 was quiet and the planned route looked hillier in reality than on the map! From Hawick - Bonchester Bridge - Saughtree - Keilder Water (One of the best bits of road on the E2E) we spent the night in a pub B&B in Falstone. Next day - Bellingham - Hexham - Durham (To have a look around, but could easily have been avoided) Sedgfield and crossed the Tees in Yarm. The rest of the route is of less interest to you, we crossed the North York Moors - Helmsley and headed for Beverley.

I was surprised how quiet the A7 was, though it's the experience of one ride, we may just have got lucky, though we saw a few other cyclists on it so maybe not. We crossed the C2C route near Consett and detoured in for lunch, not something I'd recommend. Other than that it was a pleasant ride.
