If I were a mad scientist, I doubt I'd be mad enough, having been almost bankrupted by a wacky and unpopular solo electric vehicle, to sink money into a wacky and unpopular solo electric vehicle.

But then, I'm not a mad scientist.

Got to love Sir Clive... His only failing with the C5 was that it was years ahead of its time. I've got two of them, and they are fantastic little things. The X1 could be a success as long as they've ironed out all the bugs before its released... Its far more sensible than a segway, and they've sold pretty well globally.

I've always considered the Segway a bit nuts. The fact that the owner of the company died in a Segway accident with no other vehicles involved says a lot about it's safety.

To me the X1 is certainly more futuristic looking than that overpriced Renault. The Renault is useful though, in that it might just change the mindset of our limited press.

The Sinclair web page has some strange blurb. It looks like it was translated from Chinese via Venusion:

Sinclair electric scooter X-1 form is unique only to one person who shielded hood made of acrylic. Dimensions 209x140x69cm quite compact and weighs 30 kg. Can be mild because the body uses carbon fiber material and mild steel frame. Both wheels wearing 16-inch alloy wheels, thus making the position of the vehicle flat ground clerance short alias.
Sinclair X-1 which was created by Sinclair Research and the U.S. dollar appreciated 968 (Rp8, 67 million) was equipped with electric motors powered 190 watt power supply obtained from a lithium-polymer battery voltage 24 volts. There are no official records related to power output, torque, or once the unit mileage charge. Clive Sinclair, who created the X-1, also known as the creator of mobility scooter C5. This product will be marketed from July next year for the UK market.

I dont like the look of the X1. Its like a naff velomobile. Having said that the man is a legend and I hope this works out for him.

Going from the neutral, the Renault twizzy is more car like, looks safer, more stable, more comfortable, less human effort required and will carry more luggage, etc., it'd be more attractive to existing car users wanting to make a change. I think its more likely to grab a bigger share of the market despite the price difference. Like others though I don't like the look of either.

Within that price range I would make my own, in fact I am at the moment.

I am designing and building, from scratch, an all electric reverse trike commuter with a 70 mile range at 70 mph.
It is all to be made from recycled parts, scrap yard metal, second hand parts and donations from America and Ireland.

£7k and you don't even get doors... do they include water proof overalls?

Surely even some kind of faring will make it more efficent regarding drag etc?

The main link the car has doors or 'side reflectors', I wonder if they are an optional extra
