Hi all.
I’m presently piecing together the route for my next tour and stumbled (or should that be Googled) upon this awesome website, complete with a distance calculator at the bottom AND also a “Propose Tour Stages” calculator. One less book to carry!! And the next website to visit? warmshowers.org!!

It's an impressive site but I prefer to set off on tour just knowing the start and end points and let the bit in the middle take care of itself guided by maps as and when they are needed.

From Prague onward a friend joins me for two weeks, and to make things even tighter my girlfriend would like to meet for a day off sightseeing in Budapest, both of whom have to pre-book their holiday’s well in advance. So as I’d like to visit Berlin, then also cycle the river Elbe means some rather [unfortunate] fine resolution planning without having any wasted days killing time, the warmshowers makes matters just a tad easier, just rather regimental!! The link may prove useful for any novice tourers wanting to hit Germany...or further afield along the R1.

I rode the Berlin westwards section of R1 using the Bikeline book from Esterbauer Verlag.

I was a bit disappointed by the quality of the route in some places compared to the other German cycle routes I've done.

Hi Helen.
I had a brief look on your blog but intend to have a better read this weekend. Was the route reasonably well marked? Only I've read that the signs are somewhat 'collectable' by some people!! I'm not too fussed if I detour from it but would be nice to stick to it as best to make sure I see all there is on offer. I've never toured in Germany but read many good stories about it.

You'll see from my blog that I gave up with the official route after the second day as it was way too fiddly/off-roady. Signage is reasonable but not perfect - having the GPX on my Garmin helped a lot when I was following it.
