Hi Albal. I was riding some of that over the past few days. I departed Vienna on Sunday morning and used some of the route to get to Budapest, taking a few days off now.

Mind the section between Gyorszentivan and Bony (villages after Gyor), firstly a nasty little badly patched / repatched tarmac section that is bad enough but then leads onto a dusty section that resembled some of Congo's roads! A real bone-shaker to say the least!

mark.

I just finished most of the second half of the route after joining it from the Main - Danube canal and am currently resting in Bulgaria.
I've now got to decide which way home.
Back up the Danube or north through the Ukraine.

Hi Mark, yes that bit really was bad, also some of the stop banks in Serbia, hardly any tyre tracks on it says it all, most choosing the road.I've reached Calafat,Romania. Just a bit more to do, not sure if going to the Danube delta yet, the weather has been pi$$ poor last few days.

Hi albal. Ah, a few hundred km's from me, I arrived in Bucharest today after 76km of rain!

I rode the Transfagaran pass two days back, [apparent] epic scenery ruined by the weather!! Said to be (by Jeremy Clarkson [so must be true]) the best road in the world! I expect you've also noticed the considerable difference in prices in Romania?

Regarding this and another post you made about supermarkets in Romania. It may just be the Danube route I followed, but supermarkets were pretty few and far between. The EV6 passes thru loads of small villages - which don't have much in the way of shops - and the towns are pretty scarce. I'd advice the OP to stock up well when he/she gets the chance. When I did find a supermarket, the shelves were half empty, not that cheap, and it was mainly tinned goods.

Oh sure, the small village shops (if there is one) have just basic stock, I'm not following a Eurovelo - which will always lead away from big cities - but have been through Arad, Sebes, Sibiu, Curtea des Arges, and now in Bucharest. The hotel I found on arrival, the rather plush sounding "Das President Hotel", slap bang in the centre, was just 90 Leu (~£16), good wifi, clean and tidy, but I'm now with a W.S. host for 2 nights.

Hi guys, the Romanian leg was fine, no problem sourcing supplies en route, 1 lei for a nice coffee, .75 for a huge loaf. The Tuna steak harder to find, but I loved Romania, long may it stay the old fashioned way. No starbucks/macdonalds on this route. Same in France village life and all that.

Currently in Varna, BG awaiting flight to Luton,Beds.
When the grim reality of life hits home.
