I often wonder how many countries hobble their own entries on the grounds that they don't actually want to win
Interesting how the finance works. The BBC pays for £1.2 m to be a member of the European Broadcasting Union and a further £310,000 for the Eurovision rights. The former of course has other "benefits"
If you host then it is up to you....
Azerbaijan spent £45m and recouped £7m in tourism
Sweden spent £17m and recouped £16m through tourism
Denmark Spent £36m and recouped £13m
Vienna spent £28m and recouped £22m
Of course that also depends upon the source.....The above is from the
Telegraph
There are however further discrepancies which make it unclear. If an area is redeveloped to host the event, than that is a long term investment, and is it really a cost of the competition?
Regardless - it an't cheap to run!
