I often wonder how many countries hobble their own entries on the grounds that they don't actually want to win

Interesting how the finance works. The BBC pays for £1.2 m to be a member of the European Broadcasting Union and a further £310,000 for the Eurovision rights. The former of course has other "benefits"

If you host then it is up to you....

Azerbaijan spent £45m and recouped £7m in tourism
Sweden spent £17m and recouped £16m through tourism
Denmark Spent £36m and recouped £13m
Vienna spent £28m and recouped £22m

Of course that also depends upon the source.....The above is from the Telegraph

There are however further discrepancies which make it unclear. If an area is redeveloped to host the event, than that is a long term investment, and is it really a cost of the competition?

Regardless - it an't cheap to run!

I wonder what happened to the guy who took his trousers off and stuck his bum out to the crowd? Does Ukraine still have Gulags?

That Portugese winner, what was in his hands? Was he holding some kind of gerbil or hamster in his hands during the performance?

Ireland have been entering clangers for decades. That Father Ted episode spoke a great many truths.

Really sorry Belgium didn't get it - the only Eurovision song in years that I'd be happy to hear again.

Yes, that should have won it.

Whilst were still here, it is not quite the same now that the semi-finals filter out most of the really bonkers stuff that added to the fun and made it so enjoyable is it?
