Hi Guys,

Has anyone had a gold bike service from Evans?

It includes replacement cables and bar tape in the price. I just wanted to check the quality of these cables and if it would be worth me buying gore or another brand instead of them fitting there standard cables? I called to check what cable they use and they just said its shimano cables?!?

I'm thinking might as well put decent stuff on as they are stripping the frame down anyways could be a good opportunity to upgrade as I assume they will be putting cheap cables on if they come within the price of a service? Has any one had this service do they know what type of cables is used? Is it really worth buying a better set of cables or should I spend my money elsewhere? Will it make a difference?

Thanks
Kirit

Do it yourself - cheaper and you'll learn something ! It's easy. Evans will fit OEM cables or similar - i.e. you'll get shimano is you have a shimano bike.

Gore stuff - never bothered using it - if you look after the bike then you'll change cables when they need doing.

Agree with Mr Foss - however, on the servicing it might be worth Evans doing it depending on your lifestyle (cash rich time poor for example).

I do have a tendency to get cross when I start tinkering and things don't go my way, especially when the Haynes cycle manual tells you to mark the cranks before taking off so that they go back the same way, but tell you in the "re-assembly" bit

Nooo DIY. Nothing better than a quiet hour or so tinkering ! ^_^

Agree, but it depends on the rider. A weekend warrior may not want the hassle of buying specialist tools and having to learn new jobs for the first time. Whereas a daily commuter / racer will want to be able to look after his/her bike
