One of the first things to do when I get a new bike.. Cheapy wheel reflectors go off! If you're worried about visibility, put on some 3M spoke reflectors.

It's happened to me before. Nowadays, reflectors are the first thing to come off a new bike, along with the dustcaps and that flimsy plastic thing behind the cassette!

Ah OK. I wondered about the flimsy plastic thing (or FPT as i'm fond of saying) which just collects gunk. It comes off tomorrow!!

I haven't had this happen to me, however I did have one snap in half coz it had slipped up the spoke and went through the forks sideways. (Funnily enough I didn't bother replacing it).

Having read a couple of horror stories about people taking impromtu flying lessons when the wheel reflector twisted round and jammed against the fork. I removed both of mine and rely on the reflective strip on the Marathon tyres to warn drivers aproaching from the side.

I lost one of mine on a riverside path, and the other somewhere, I have no idea where but its not on the bike anymore.

Why take off the dustcaps?
