the rain keeps you cooler and I find I can flog my way up hills in a higher gear simply due to not 'boiling over' Once you're wet through you can't get any wetter so you may as well enjoy it and look forward to feeling smug about it later.

They're expensive; but these (combinded with mud-guards) have solved my wet-shoe problem.

Thanks for all the replies, glad to hear you all love biking in inclement weather! And a special cheers to those you gave some advice.

I tried top cycle in the rain all last week, though by some miraculous coincidence even if it was p*ssing it down as I was getting ready, it had stopped by the time I actually got on the bike. Had my fair share of headwinds though (strangley both on the way to and on the way from work)

I wear a lycra short sleeve cycling jersey and cycling shorts and if I'm chilly I'll use lycra arms and legs. If it's really pouring then I'll throw on a race cape. My shoes have vented soles which allows the water to escape (I don't wear socks).

Stay out of the gutters too as all the shoot gets washed in there by the rain which could cause punctures.
