Was out yesterday and passed a guy on a road bike with all the gear but with no helmet and no eyewear either.

Accepting that there is an ongoing debate about helmets, I was actually more surprised that he was not wearing glasses of any description.

I've had countless insects fly into my lenses and passing cars can fling up all kinds of s__t*, so it's not something I would ever consider.

Just wondered does anyone else forego eye protection?

*Was once overtaken by a tractor with a trailer full of manure - bits flying off everywhere. I showered well that day.

Wierdly! I bought a pair of madisons yesterday actually. but previously have been riding without glasses. I have only found that in the last few weeks with the warmer weather I have needed some eye protection. The dust on the roads has become really bad.
As for the no helmet, even though there is a current discussion on thier effectiveness, I would rather wear one even if it only increases your safety by 1%. When I worked in a bike shop years ago there was a chap there who rode downhill comps and he reckonned his helmet saved his life. He even kept the broken one in the back as a momento.

I haven't yet ridden with glasses on, each time I go out I remind myself to get some, and I keep forgetting. Is getting unpleasant now, I rode through a veritable swarm yesterday, mouth, eyes, nose, ears, all got some and a couple even went inside my top.

Very much personal choice, but I have always worn glasses when riding, same with gloves, maybe just a case of routine.

Having said that, following wheels on the Sunday ride (particularly in the Winter) can throw up some crap, and prefer it on the shades rather then in my eyes.

I wear specs or contact lenses corrective reasons. When I wear the contacts lenses I always have eye proptection but curiously enough i don't think I've ever had a problem bu when I'm wearing the specs I've had a few fly and dust strikes ;)

I know what I prefer (fly in the eye or not xx() but I suspose thats their choice.

I could use some perscription ones as I'm as blind as a bat without my specs and normal specs don't really offer much protection against insects and they always slide down my nose when I'm riding.

I've always preferred glasses on:becool:. I always wear them on my Mtb but have recently lost my Half Jacket frames :cry:so am desperately searching E-bay for a new set....Feeling lost without them. I wear a helmet when training but oddly not on the way to work:wacko:????

I do however seem unable to get comfy with out gloves:wacko:;)

I wear my normal prescription glasses or "Rapide" prescription sunglasses from Optilabs; also used them for skiing as they fit snugly (to prevent snow blindness) and have full UV protection.

Only recently been able to get contact lenses but haven't got used to wearing them yet.

Often do without eyewear if it's not sunny and never when it's at all rainy, don't have any gloves either except winter ones. Wear a helmet on most occasions but by no means all. My chief precaution these days is to cycle as much as possible in France.

I only wear glasses when it's sunny, to keep the sun out of my eyes. And I only really waer gloves for the padding on the bars...

(I just typed that last word as bras, honestly...)

I was given some Endura Shark glasses from my sister as a birthday present. They are quite good. I wouldn't really cycle without them now, they just feel part of the kit.

I usually wear glasses (I have some Optilab corrective specs too) but in the p*ssing rain, like this afternoon , they get put into my pocket.
