Face Plant

Yesterday evening I went on a night ride in Delamere forest. A fallen tree has a wooden ramp on both sides, something I've ridden over many times except this time I took my eye of the line and went base over apex landing with a nice face plant. Oh how we all laughed. This morning I'm sporting cuts and grazes on me hooter and chin with a nice fat lip. The rim of my helmet ( oh matron ) definately saved me from further injury.

So, the moral of the story. Just because you've ridden something countless times, don't become complacent. Helmets DO work.

Anyway, one day I'll realise I'm not 21 any more.

It is that old saying, "familiarity breeds contempt".

Ha ha, I did the very same thing a few years on a MTB club night ride: the trail went down a steep hill with a tree trunk lying across it, loose soil had back-filled the uphill side but the downhill side had a 2' dropoff, made easier by a second smaller piece of timber lying alongside and forming a sort of exit ramp. The first time I rode it with conviction and followed through nicely, it felt really easy so I walked back up cockily to show the rest of them how to do it... but made the fatal mistake of hesitating at the edge, which threw my weight too far forward and over the bars I went for a mouthful of tasty Lancashire soil.
