They need a lot of storage space and are a pain to transport anywhere.
I have plenty of storage space, but it's the transport issue that would put trikes totally out of the question for me. Most of my touring was done on the basis that I could just get a train home when I'd had enough, in fact, being as my time was my own I usually set off with the full intention of not coming home until I couldn't go any further. I don't actually know whether I could still ride a two wheeler, I'd already given up before my balance was an issue.

Balance problems are a curse, they effect you in so many ways. Mine is not too bad at the moment, but I still have to be careful and I need a torch in my pocket after dark in case of a power cut. In pitch darkness even standing still without holding on to something is a problem.

On the bike or the motorcycle I was ok above 10mph, but below that I was wobbling all over the place and getting through tight gaps had my nerves in shreds. A sad development for someone who was once happy to bang handlebars in a road race bunch.

Old age stinks.
