reminded of this excellent thread when thinking of the Icelandic eruption. Could Zeppelins/airships ever a viable (ie 'greener') alternative to carrying goods or people around the continents ?

Fabulous pictures and exciting to imagine drifting along...35mph is a cool speed - not 600 or so mph.
The 'salt flats' picture was particularly nice.

We built a model zeppelin at school, it was about 2 meters long, 60cm wide and had full remote control steering system. We entered it into a competition and came first place

I think this pictures really sums up what 'car culture' means.

However, they do have public transport (bus shuttles) to get people from the car parks to the stadium!

That car park shot got my attention as well. Recently had an architecture student design a sports stadium in Beijing, no car park spaces at all, lots of cycle racks tho!

God, wouldn't it be amazing to be up there and you can have the window open! I think airships are fantastic - can't understand why they're not used loads more. Like I've never understood why we don't still use barges for heavy stuff that's not in a big hurry - gravel, coal, ore.
