Whats the fastest you've ever done on the flat? state whether headwind or not! mines about 35mp with a big tail wind!

25 with nothing.

I've never really noted that, at a guess without assistance I've been 28-29 mph; in a group I've been sucked along at 33mph according to my mate he said he dropped out when the pace hit 33mph; and I think wind assisted I've reached somewhere around 35. Flat speeds for me anyway are normally overwritten by downhill speeds by me on a ride.

32mph on the race bike. 26mph on the hybrid. I don't measure anything that's not on the dead flat and I discount it if there's any tailwind. I measure it over a quarter of a mile. Unfortunately the place I test it out on was resurfaced some time back and it's going to take a year or two to grind the surface down to being usable again.

35mph for a short spell but my vision went a bit funny with the effort, won't be trying that again for a while. That was doing about 125 RPM in a 95 inch gear. I didn't know the speed until I stopped to check, no way could I have seen the computer on the move at that point. 125 RPM isn't that big a spin, I can do that on lower gears, it's the combination of spin rate, larger gear and lack of strength. Stronger riders wouldn't have the latter weakness.

60 mph slipstreaming a lorry.. overtook a fiat bambino.. Once above about 35mph you get sucked along in the bubble behind the lorry.

My top speed on the flat is 34mph. This was last years London to Cambridge ride when I got onto the end of a chaingang the other side of Duxford. It was fantastic to able to go at that pace without really having to bust a gut. It gave me a small taste of what being in a professional peloton might feel like.

33 mph with a strong tailwind........................................for about 500 metres before turning off and gasping like a landed fish!!!

Has to be said but the one 'who makes things out of paper' is one of the best cyclists I've ever seen.

lost me there.

And I have no idea how fast I ride on the flat - if I can't have a chat doing it then it is pointless! (Apart from burning off iLB ;) )
And for all those that commute at 'vast speed' - slow down a bit! Enjoy the extra thinking seconds.
