Have just borrowed a very trusting and generous mates pristine Felt F65, he isnt using it at the mo so offered to kindly lend it me to see howI get on with a posh road bike, had a quick go round the car park and it felt (geddit ?) great, I was a bit concerened after riding my brother in laws Dave Hinde which felt nervous after my Cannondale Bad Boy, will get my pedals on it and use it in the morning (obviously in the car today, booo)and report back.

Work are revising the CTW scheme so its on a rolling basis, so it puts stuff like this in my reach once I have paid for the Cannondale at the end of the year.

Quite excited, much as I like the Cannondale I love dropped bars, only downside is the fact I will have to use a rucksack again after the luxury of panniers, the joy of a sweaty back !

The sweaty back syndrome only needs to take place once each way a week. I bring in fresh laundry each Monday and take it home again on Friday. Another alternative is to use the panniers once a week to do the laundry run. Cycle to work with the clean stuff for the coming week and take the duirty stuff from last week home.

What about lunch!!

I've got a H20 Berghaus rucksack which lifts it off your back to keep you less sweaty...it works quite well!

That is what pubs & cafe's are for.

Or you could put it in one of those bags (don't know what they are called) thet get handed out with freebies in at cycling events. I use one I got last year during bike week from Cycling Scotland. If it is cold enough to use my training jacket I wear it rucksack stylee, otherwise I roll up the training jacket and strap it behind the saddle. The bag then wraps around this.

Only got it for a little while and I think he would prefer I dont "personalise" it, taking a load of clothes in on a monday isnt really practical as the showers are a fair distance (and several coded doors) away from the shower block and I dont really want to leave stuff in there.

He has said about buying it potentially but the trouble is the CTW scheme, I could end up paying the same for a second hand (but as new) bike as I would over 18 months on CTW, not sure how much you actually save as a percentage on CTW but it seems pretty unbeatable.

I've got an inov8 ruck sack, 22lite with liquid bladder does the job very nicely its designed for running so not too much sweaty back. I carry to many things in it to go without, spare tube, lock, puncture repair kit, multi tool ( then again i'm probably just risk averse after my first ride into london ended up with puncture and a 1 and half mile walk to nearest evans.)
