So, last week Field & Trek were advertising some bargainous stuff in their sale. Ordered an Akto tent on 20th with next day delivery. By Tuesday, had heard nothing so mailed. No reply. Mailed yesterday. No reply. Phoned them just and got some crap about "er, the warehouse has got a problem picking your order.... its showing as out of stock... but they are picking it, so you'll have it next week". Not sure how that works, not holding out any hope there.

They are a total waste of space and I'd advise anyone not to touch them with a barge pole. I certainly won't order anything off them in future, bargain or not.

Buy from the shop!
I work in Millets, and there has been people come in from Field and Trek with some great bargins. Much much cheaper then what we would sell them for, even on sale!

I've never had a problem with F&T....but then I've never bought over t'web, only in the shop. They do do some pretty could discounts in the sales, IF you're lucky enough to find a shop that has want you want (size, colour, etc)

F&T used to be really great, then I don't know what happened? I know they closed some shops, but the rest of their service went south as well.

I can recommend Cotswold Outdoors. My tent arrived in two days and if you are a CTC member you get 15% discount too. Very happy with my experience.

Cotswolds are good, but expensive... even with a discount!!

I've used theoutdoorshop.com a few times and not been able to fault them, their prices are normally very good as well. Have also used Jackson Sports mentioned above, no probs at all.

I can recommend Blacks, both in store and online. (I don't work for them)

I wouldn't, and i work for them!;)

I work in Millets(Blacks and Millets same company) and although there are some that work there that know there stuff, others will either bullshit you or just not have a clue, except how to sort of work the till.
Although, price wise with things, and ordering online (easy returns) is pretty good, and the shops can order in.

Field and Trek aren't bad if you have one close I suppose.

IIRC the first F&T opened in Brentwood (my home town) in the 80s and I spent a fair bit of money and a lot of time in there buying lots of camping, skiing and other outdoor equipment.

I always found them to be helpfull and knowledgeable, but I accept that that´s a long time ago, and may not be the case now.

Never bought anything from them over the interwebs though.

I think that's the thing to avoid at all costs!!!

Edit to add... I've now sent them three mails and no reply, they don't give you a straight answer over the phone (they don't give a number on their website but I found one on Amazon), their website doesn't show real time stock, they don't give you an option to cancel an order when you log into your account, and they authorise your credit card to the amount of the order (that they're not going to bother sending you) when you press the button. In short they are a bunch of thieving con artists not to be trusted.

I may be wrong ( I was once) but on another thread someone said that F&T had been bought out by the fat bloke who owns Newcastle United. Sports Direct?
