We chose the village we live in partly because it has a bus service.

It's quite cheap to get to town, as it's very heavily subsidised by the local authority.

The trouble is, they're constanty cutting funding, and consequently the bus company cuts services. It's a vicious cycle: people who might have used the bus no longer do, because they'll have a long wait to get back, or there isn't a suitable service. So user numbers drop, which justifies a further cut, and so on.

It's so heavily subsidised, why not make it free? Advertise heavily and people might actually use it. Even me. (When it's raining, anyway).
