cool, how long ya planning on doing it over? I am a wannabe tourer so i dont really have any tips, just a tinge of envy.

Watch outfor the midges maybe? They have ruined a fair few scottish holidays i understand!

I think some of the route is off road so im not sure that my bike is suitable. I was thinking i may need a bike that takes paniers.

No its unsupported, ill be riding and staying in b&bs/hostels on the way.

Im planning on using the national cycle route 7 and some of this goes along an old disused railway line.

It's not far so the bike will be fine. Also you are not camping/cooking so you won't have a very big load. The only thing is not having anywhere to mount a rack so you'll have to take it in a ruck sack.

I wouldn't take that bike on anything longer than you are planning though. Maybe you know somebody who has a mountain bike you can borrow for a few days?
