Hit some black ice with only 5km of my commute to go having avoided falling off for the last 31, then hit a small frozen stream across the road and splat. Hit the grass verge (and snow) with my head. Luckilly the road was quiet (usually is - it was 6.50am) and got up and carried on. Only when I got to work did I realise my face was badly grazed and my left thumb very sore. So a trip to A&E (fortunately not too far from oncology where I work) one x-ray later - nothing broken and a dfew painkillers I'm ok - just look a bit worse for it all. Think I'll take the car for a couple more days. Glad I was wearing a helmet and most of all cycling glasses.

let's be careful out there......

The dreaded Black Ice, it does catch you out so quickly there is no time to react to it. Hope the recovery is quick Partick and would agree about keeping off the bike until the ice etc. has gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Knocks your confidence a bit, doesn't it? I smashed a week-old helmet and scratched my best cycling glasses in an ice 'off' a couple of years back. The glasses cut the bridge of my nose where they dug in, but all mended with a bit of TLC. Next day I discovered a huge bruise on my inner thigh. Totally unaware there'd been any contact there until I saw it.

Hope you're not aching too much today!

Sorry to hear that, hope you feel better soon. I came off yesterday as well and one look at the road this morning and I quickly decided that it was the bus again today

I never had any confidence of ice anyway.I seem to remember when I was cycling on ice when I was a kid,it held no terrors for me.I guess at that age you think you are indestructible.;)
