Went for a short ride this morning to get the legs working since doing the 'Lap the Lough' last Sunday. Started off well but was hitting quite a strong head wind so instead of doing the originally planned 25 miles I decided to take the short but steep route home.
The first half of the climb went well so I went for the shortest but steepest route home. This route starts with a short but very steep climb through the village of Gleno and here was the Off!
As I rounded the last bend and only about 30 metres from the end of the steepest climb in a light rain while pushing hard stood up on the pedals I didn't seen the manhole cover! As the rear wheel went over said manhole cover the wheel spun up but the speed hit a big fat zero and a big fat me hit the deck!
I was pleased at how easy the shoes unclipped and the helmet took the impact as my head hit a wall so all's well with me. The chain came off and jammed so other than that and needing a lift home a good outcome.
