First race of the season for me today, a “B” event with a healthy 67 entries to do the North Lancashire Time Trial Association club 10. Now 10 mile TT’s haven’t been my thing for several years now, as I’ve gotten older (52 now) I’ve gravitated towards the longer stuff so wasn’t expecting big things today. The course and HQ was very close to me so set off early doors to do a long warm up (this old steam engine takes some time to get the boiler warm ) After forty miles I called in to the HQ to sign up and collect my number. Rode out to the start and set off and made a point of riding within myself. Although the first 3 miles were quite rolling if I needed to keep my powder dry, from mile 4 to 8 where it was open countryside and a strong headwind so needed a big effort to keep the wheels turning. By mile 8 the course turned to make the last section a tailwind so just clung on the best I could. Most of my training has been sub threshold this winter so to go balls out was certainly a bit of a shock to say the least! Still, produced my best 20min power outside for over three months and in TT position so was well happy with my performance. My result was also pleasing, coming 4th overall and 1st V50 with a time of 22:50 on a not very quick course and just my second race on the new bike (the last one was April last year) Hopefully something to build on for the rest of the season.
