First ride with a cree torch ... WOW!

Earlier in the week I was caught out while riding with a weak front light, and ended up riding through flood water because I thought it was just a little puddle

So I ordered a cheapo 7w cree torch off eBay for 9 quid...

Just been out for a test ride and it was awesome! On dimly-lit roads I could see as well as in daylight. That wasn't enough of a challenge so I went to the local park and rode through absolute darkness, and again I could see the path perfectly, and there's enough of a spread on the beam to get some peripheral lighting too. It runs off 3 AAA batteries, so there's no faffing about with getting 18650s and a special charger.

If you're thinking of getting new lights now the nights are drawing in, these seem well worth a try.

The cree LEDs are good, no, excellent. I have a homebrew 2xCree and they make life so much easier on the road.
VFM its difficult to imagine anything better.

Those cree lights are rated at around 80-100 lumens with AAA`s according to the spec sheet from cree, good enough for lit roads but i would not try to ride in unlit areas.
I currently use 2 and i could just about navigate my country side commute slowly but you really need a better light like magicshine, xml t6 , hope vision, etc .
watch the rear light , i have had 2 of those in the past and both bounced out of the rear bracket and broke as the clip was loose.

i have used 2 x cree torches for a while now very good vfm as bought from tescos for about £7 ea

Forgive my ignorance...but what makes a CREE torch a 'cree' torch? How are they different to any other type?

Cree is a manufacturer of very bright LEDS. I'm not sure if everything refered to as 'CREE' contains genuine cree leds though.

Yeah. It was this one, although the seller's put the price up in the last couple of days so it might be cheaper elsewhere.
