First road bike - Viking San Remo 2012 or Triban 500 SE?

This is my first post (hope not last) so 'Hi everybody!'

I am going to buy my first road bike (would prefer something second hand).
Found quite interesting Viking San Remo and Triban 500SE on gumtree:

Could someone give me advise, which offer/bike seems to be better, please?

depending on whether they are the right size etc, I would plump for the triban.

looking at the frame of the Viking, the sellers sizing looks a little out.

My mate has the Triban - he loves it. I have a B'Twin bike also and love mine. Personally I don't like the look of the Viking.

I realise it's just a copy but ref the lifetime warranty on the triban you need to check whether it's transferable. Often not, for example specialized

If it`s on gumtree, make sure you see the receipts before buying - they are probably stolen bikes!

I think lifetime warranties are never transferable; otherwise they would be "forever" warranties.

Edit: wow, wikipedia covers everything.

With the others, triban before a Viking, every time.

Triban but it's a 63cm frame so make sure it's going to fit, I am 6ft and have a 60cm frame which is probably too big for me.

@Breakdrowser have a look at this. it was posted in the found a bargain thread. looks a little closer to your size judging by the frame.

you could spend the difference on doing it up.

The triban is way too big! Only £330 new and available in a 54cm which would be more your size. Do you have decathlon close by?

The Viking is overweight at 11kg and seriously overpriced IMO. As a lesser known brand, they don't command high 2nd hand prices. I bought my wife a Viking Dimension MTB in great condition for £30. The seller had been trying to shift it for several weeks on ebay and Gumtree.
