...we are riding from Edinburgh to Carlisle through the borders for three days....I don't know how many of you tour during all but the darkest months of the year but it's something I've indulged in for several years now. What was your first tour this year?
Good show, Kirstie. No cycling yet so far this year, though I did venture up to Scotland last weekend for a spot of walking. The first day, a walk across Rannoch Moor, was abortive as after 1.5 hours of walking in the rain and meeting an un-fordable burn, we accepted defeat at the hand of the elements and turned back. Day two was mostly sunny and managed a successful climb of Goat Fell on Arran (something I wanted to do after cycle touring across Arran
en route between Carlisle and Fort William at the end of last April and
seeing it).
Anyhow, I don't think I'll be doing a "proper" tour until at least May or, more likely, June. Last year, I did manage a few days touring Essex and Suffolk at the end of March as a warm-up for the aforementioned venture to Scotland. I think the issue for me is the shortness of the days and that now I prefer camping, which I would find a lot more difficult until the days get longer and warmer.
