Looking to get a fixie, I'd contemplated this:

Mostly because the LBS markets this brand... any other suggestions?

If you want to ride it on the road you'll need at least a front brake - the bike you've pictured looks like a track specific bike to me.

It is spec'd with front and rear brakes, but yeah the picture shows no brakes. I guess thats somekinda advertising thing? Fully agree it needs a front brake and would not consider riding on the roads without one ;)

Ah, fair enough.

Personal choice would be the On-One Macinato, but only because I have one and like it:smile: (This could be one of those threads where everyone recommends their own bike!)

I was going to get that same bike but the 2012 version as I preferred the colours, then I saw the Fuji Feather and went for that instead. Glad I did as although the Langster sells in bigger numbers I much prefer something more exclusive.

Here's mine fully track ready, and I'll be on Manchester Velodrome with her tomorrow morning at 8am .

The on one bikes do look very good. I currently have a singlespeed adapted from a cheap claud butler hybrid, but I'm tempted to replace it with an on-one pompino eventually.

Nice pic! Looks like I might have to abandon the LBS and travel 30 miles to Evans  since I can try more bikes there, I think it's my better option. Your exclusiveness won't be compromised if I go for the Fuji, as they appear to only have lemon or white frames left

The Pompino and Macinato are very different beasts. Apart from the brake fittings they look similar on paper, but the Macinato is much sharper handling - not in a twitchy way, but in a 'think and you've changed direction' kind of way. The Pompino is, by comparison, quite ponderous. Both are excellent frames in my opinion, just different.

I've had a Pompino for a fair few years now as my winter bike. Apart from the brakes it came with it's been excellent. A very comfy ride. Never thought of it as ponderous. It even crashes well! You may remember....?

Have you ever ridden a fixie for any length of time? If you haven't I'd advise you do so to find out if it suits you or buy a cheapie converted.

Oh I remember (although I was climbing that hill too slowly to witness the crash). I'm hoping it would be able to fit Schwalbe snow studs in the winter

^^^^ This.

I bought a BSO fixed off Fleabay and rode it for a while before talking the plunge and getting a Pinarello Catena - which I absolutely love. The Fleabay special is now consigned to hack duties (and actually does a very good job of it).

I'm now looking for a third Fixed (this one with mudguards) as a winter commuter.
