Interesting as David Jason appears not to be involved. Perhaps he thought better of it. They will never surpass the originals. Everything has a shelf life and is a product of it's time. Best to leave them alone or to be repeated ad infinitum on UK Gold. Actors John Cleese and Rowan Atkinson have repeatedly declined to revisit Fawlty Towers and Blackadder. Also Ricky Gervais The Office.

I would usually be sceptical about something like this but it might work. They are coming at it from a different angle rather than trying to remake the original.

I think in the current climate you are going to get pressure to do this sort of thing (however it ends up, which is hard to say).

That reminds me of a bit of grafitti from a Nigel Rees book:

I like bestiality, sadism and necrophilia. Am I flogging a dead horse?

...but we enjoyed the remake of Reggie Perrin as much as the original [sorry FF!] as they interpreted the characters so differently and presented them well.

C'mon the remake of The Rise and Fall of RP was feeble. Not Clunes' greatest moment.

The Green Green Grass or whatever it was with the characters Boycie and Marlene living in a mansion in the country was dire.

The remake of Minder was awful.

Nicholas Lyndhurst in anything like Fools and Horses will always be Rodney "You plonker" Trotter. Without David Jason it's lame.

You just cannot replicate great comic actors who were in their prime 25-30 years earlier who created iconic characters. Lubbly jubbly.

...each to his own Crank re: Perrin [27 minutes late!] but I agree about the rest on your list.

Off shoots from originals usually are useless because the production lacks the spark of the original cast.
