Football is a game for ponces.

Put him on a bike

I know what you mean. My eldest is in a football team. I don't mind the game to watch but I am less enamoured with the people it seems to attract. Football tournaments in particular seem to bring out the worst in people. So far I've had one blazing row with a coach at a tournament. Football seems to attract a lot of dads who are living their own dream through their children.

It does keep him fit though, teaches him the value of teamwork and he gets a lot out of it. Fortunately or unfortunately, he is quite good, not academy good but a solid player, so I'm stuck with football for a while longer. I just have to continue to ignore the muppets and he already knows how to recognise them anyway.

My boy is 7. loves the game, but when we were in England was never 'allowed' to play because he wasn't good enough. Now in Switzerland he wanders over to the sports area and plays with older lads and is improving more and enjoying it more now than ever. Wish it wasn't such a competative over acting deal in the UK. It's very diff. in the S.E to do a sport just for fun. It's all or nothing.

Rugby is by far a better game then football. None of the back chat to the ref and no theatricals. It might get a bit rough now and again but everyone is mates afterwards when they get in the bar. Get him down your local club on Sunday morning, neither of you will regret it.

It's not just the kids sadly. I started playing Sunday League football when I first arrived from NZ... that was a rude awakening to the morons that exist. I stopped after a few weeks because I didn't want my legs broken. And I was frankly appalled at the shoot the ref got given.... and they're volunteers! If you don't believe me, go down to your local football pitch on a Sunday.
