I used to regularly have problems with drivers taking offence at me avoiding a stretch of huge gaping potholes. Eventually after one of them tried to swipe me (after prolonged hooting) and he ended up mounting the pavement, I reported it to the council, describing the problems it was causing with my interactions with other road users and saying that I would hold the council partly responsible for any accidents. It's since been resurfaced properly.

I cracked an wheel on a pothole out in surrey...it was so deep it had its own echo!

I complained to East Grinsted Local authority who fixed the hole immediatley but took so long to settle the cost for the wheel that i eventually sold the car and "moved on" (I had already fixed the wheel as it wouldn't drive)

Are there any CCTV cameras nearby that might have caught the incident? This sounds like the car was used as a weapon and most definitely should be reported to the police if there is a chance CCTV caught it. You'd have to report it quick though to be sure the footage isn't lost.

Not true, My eldest passed her cycling proficiency last year and my youngest can't wait to do hers so that she can join us in "the road".

Why wait... get her some experience cycling on quiet roads now - at least that way she won't freak the first time she is sharing a road with a car.

Sort of OT, but:

I passed two family groups on the road this morning on the way in (Mum plus kid, both on bikes). The second surprised me a bit - the kid was on a bike with stabilisers! Must have been 4 or 5 I suppose to be going to school, but looked very young. I wondered if that was perhaps a tad too young, esp when she wobbled a couple of feet out from the kerb suddenly.

Yes sorry I was assuming his 2nd child was older than that:blush:

From riding with my son, I found he was still quite low when he was on a 20 inch bike, and now he's on a 24" one I feel he is more visible and can see more himself. On stabilizers - I would say only on the path...!!! - if you haven't mastered cycling.

very good idea, just had a quick look on google street view, and there is only one camera on a building, not sure if it's got the right angle and it deff wouldn't have got his plate due to the angle.

But the evidence from this one would allow the Police to pursue footage from another camera down the road from which they could get his plate details... assuming they can be bothered, of course.
