I was out on a ride today and managed to get to about the 10 mile point before I realised I'd forgotten to put my gloves on. Odd because, as is the fashion, I was riding with both hands out in front of me in plain site the whole time!

Thing is, after 35 miles my hands were really numb. I've been wearing padded gloves for so long now I guess I'd been taking them for granted.

Other notable items I've managed to start a ride without are my heart rate monitor, my helmet and my water bottles - age happens to us all

It happens to us all eventually. I have forgotten locks and key for locks, water bottle, hydro bag, lights, saddle bag (you notice when you have a puncture) pump (you notice when you have a puncture) i wish there was some time of alarm system that went off when i pushed my bike through the door that flashed a warning of things i have missing.

One day i will write a check list and stick it to my front door (but i keep on forgetting:banghead:.

The purpose of this thread, before I was viciously attacked by MDB (Git!) was twofold:

1) I always assumed that the gloves helped but that it was time on the bike that solved the numb hands problem in the end - today proved to me that the gloves play a larger part than I thought.

and B) my memory is crap!

and iii) this site should automatically refuse membership from anyone North of the Trent!

How does the heart rate monitor work? Don't tell me you put one of those monitor patches on your chest.

Heart rate strap that came with my Garmin Edge.
It makes interesting reading sometimes.
As I've put more time in on the bike my average heart rate has come down quite a bit. I don't set the high heart rate alarm off any more when I climb hills ^_^

When I was in hospital, I was so drugged up I had a heart rate of 128pm whilst lying down doing nothing. I hate to think what it was when I actually tried to do anything!
