I have narrowed my search for my first bike down to the 2 bikes in the title and would just like your opinion on them and which one you would choose and your reasons for doing so? Cheers

FYI. It's good practice to include links in posts for things you want people to look at, but being new you'll get away with it this time

Here you go; FORME, GIANT

FWIW I'm not a fan of Giant and compact geometry frames, and I know nothing about Forme TBH. So I'll refrain from airing an opinion on these, other than to say a quick scan of the specs seems to suggest they are VERY similar in terms of componentry.

So, if it's just a choice of these two it might be one of those decisions that simply boils down to aesthetics.

Have you considered THIS? Swings and roundabouts as far as components go, but the CAAD frames are the very best in the world. Granted they have now moved onto CAAD10, but never the less, you should always buy the very best frame your budget will allow, and the CAAD frame will be superior to the Giant and the Forme in everyway, IMO

For me they are pretty much the same spec so i would go for the Forme.

Because it looks better.

Ride both if you can, both are good bikes (i have a defy 2 2010) so it is really your preference.

ah, there they are, those two little words. "will" and "opinion"!

Lol, the phrase "will be better" is only as validated as one's "opinion". Don't get me wrong, I love 'Dales, my hybrid frame is the best I've had, although I am looking at Forme bikes at the moment!

I have a Forme Longcliffe 4, which is the spec just below yours, i love it, looks great, the ride i've had on it was magic (only just got it) saying that my other bike is a MTB with road tyres, so the difference is night and day.
The build feels solid and well built, plus you're helping a Brit company!
its also a bit unusual as not many Formes around compared to Giants. but as what others have said, ride both if you can. i'm sure you won't be disapointed with what ever bike you choose..

No worries

Of course whilst the opinion in my post is exactly that, my opinion, if the OP does a little Google homework on CAAD frames you'll know he will discover that the whole world loves CAAD frames, and have done forever

thanks to everyone for there input. Thanks for the tip and the links smokey.
yeah there is not much between them i have noticed, was just looking to see if anyone had experiences with either bike and the forme is edging it cause it looks better and is cheaper which is always a bonus!
I have looked at CAAD8 2013 but it is slightly out of my budget which is £800 but is a very nice bike and would certainly be the pick of the 3 for me as far as aesthetics are concerned.
i am going to buy out of a cycling shop, i don't have enough experience to buy a bike online so i am going to buy out of my local cycling shop (pedal power) so will have the opportunity to try both bikes out!
