"We want to send a clear message to dangerous drivers: if you continue to show complete disregard for the safety of other road users, we will catch you – and we will punish you." I wonder if that includes chasing people down and beating them up...

That's fine and dandy but totally worthless unless enforced.
This! The 'crime' today isn't the the offence, it's getting caught. If people were racking up multiple 3 points FPN for phone use & speeding in double quick time then you'd see a change. Just upping the charge does nothing.

We found an old driving licence in the recycling the other day, and it had a stack of endorsments on it (lots of three-pointers, more than 12 points in total, is that possible?).

We discussed using it to steal the identity, but both decided we'd rather have our own point free identities than that one...;)

Sadly yes. If you can make up some story about losing your job.
The number of motons on >12 points is staggering.

The article's based on a quoted DM piece so I'd like to see it reliably corroborated before taking any notice of it.

If true it's a move in the right direction, but only if enforced. Still far too lenient over loss of licences. We should long ago have moved to a 12 month ban on first offence for all of the crimes listed, greater for subsequent ones.

Blacked out windows are mentioned. I'd like to see mandatory vehicle crushing for that, in addition to normal driver penalties.

If it's IAM I'm happy to believe it!

Like them as they're one of the few organisations that promotes good driving without at the same time being an apologist for bad driving.

Most of that 8000 comes from drivers with 12 points. And data included drivers who have served their driving ban but still have the points against their licence. Not having ever had a single point on my licence I duno how points are 'served' & how/why they stay on your licence after a ban.

What's much more worrying is those with more than 20 points.
