Frame Fit pumps

After a visit by you know who I'm after a frame fit pump. My mini pump was a struggle to use and I only managed about 30-40ish PSI with it before giving up (I was only 3 miles away from my destiniation and used the track pump when I got home).

I'm thinking of getting the Blackburn Road frame pump and fitting it along the top tube. My top tube from end to end measures 21", so from this selection;

which one should I go for? Would the large be the right one (21 - 22.5")?

The new Park one was Editor's choice in C+ recent group test, plax (and has some kind of clever one size fits all fitting).

Whilst not quite a frame pump (mounts to a bottle cage mounted bracket) the Specialized airtool is very good indeed, and a snip at a tenner.

They work great, but for me they are to big if you ever have to take them off the bike (eg parking somewhere). I have a Decathlon one which converts into a mini foot pump, exactly like the Topeak Road Morph, and I have one of those too. These go up to 100psi with ease. I also have Barbieri CO2 device, with pressure gauge which is also a very tiny pump. The pump is great for putting in a bit of air to test a tube, or to get it seated. The CO2 thingy gets the tyre to 110psi in less than two seconds

I'd not thought about taking it off the bike when parking up (thanks - another thing for me to worry about ). I'll not need to bother when at work and on the rare occassion I go into town / Tesco's on it I shall cross my fingers that nobody will nick it. They shouldn't do, so far nobody has stolen my lights or bike computer and I never leave it for more than an hour 'cos I'm paranoid somebody will have the audacity to touch it, let along steal it . I was on a CTC ride yesterday and forgot my lock. It took an awful lot of effort for me to drink my tea and not go and look out the window every 5 mins to see if it was still there (it always amazes me how the CTC lot just leave their bikes unlocked - mind you they do tend to lean several bikes on top of each other so it would probably be too much effort to grab one and run, plus I don't think the common thief is interested in a load of old tourers).

A Topeak Master Blaster Road Pump that fits to your frame. It can go up to 160PSI. I have the Joe Blow sport track pump and think it is fab so thought I'd try this one out (and it is cheaper than the Blackburn one).

Once it arrives I shall post back my thoughts if anyone is interested.

To leave on the bike, I just have a cheap pump from the local discount store. It works fine and it's not the end of the world if somebody does nick it.

I got the mini morph

it stays in the bag of tricks in the pannier along with the repair kit, forget all about it until needed, one less thing to unclip all the time? no thanks

The Zefal HPx is the frame pump that normally gets most votes. It and the Topeak Road Master Blaster have spring lockouts so you don't waste energy squashing the spring at the end of every pump stroke.

I have at least four frame-fit pumps in my garage. I don't use them now, as the Zefal HPx Graph mini pump is so light and small.

In the bad-old-days, the frame-fit pump was an effective implement for whipping the backsides of riders who wouldn't give way to faster riders.

Thank goodness for mini pumps.

I have to admit, I struggle to get more than 80-90psi out of my topeak frame pump so tend to take a cyclaire on longer rides as I know that I can get 110psi without any effort.

Well, my Topeak Master Blaster Road Pump arrived. It was too small for my frame, so don't go off the guidelines for the frame sizes given for each pump. I have a 52cm Dawes Ultra Galaxy, and the Medium 49-54cm pump was too small, should really have gone for the large. Anyway I couldn't be bothered to send it back and have fitted it along the frame with the velcro strap that came with the pump and I also had a spare velcro strap knocking about. So it has been secured in place at both ends and doesn't rattle or fall off which is good.

Much to my dismay I had the opportunity to try it out this afternoon. Once I'd got the chuffin tyre off the rim and changed the tube that is. It's a right sod trying to get the tyre off, I only have the standard Marathons too, dread to think how I'd cope with the Plus's. Anyway it was really easy to get up to a decent enough pressure to get home.

I should really stop going out on Sundays, I had an unwelcome visitor last Sunday as well.

i got one of those, and my experience matches yours. i never leave home without it.
