Frame size?

I've been riding MTB for years, but i'm in training for a Macmillan bike ride next year and i'm thinking of getting a s/h road bike for piling on the miles. I'm 6'3" and not sure what size frame to go for, found somewhere saying that it should be your inside leg less 9" but that would be 27" and i doubt they come that big!! Any taller than average guys out there with some advice would be well recieved.

hiya.... well im 6ft tall with a 32 inside leg, i can ride either 18" or 21" frame, kinda in there in the middle.. lol. So... I'm assuming a 21" would do you nicely, theres plenty of adjustment in the saddle and bars, but to be sure, ask your LBS for an opinion.... What size is your MTB, out of curiosity?

Hi Andy, if it helps I'm just over 6'1" with about 35" inside leg (measured bike measurement style, in the crotch to the floor).

I'm currently riding an old style Dawes road bike which is 64 cm centre to top, and it feels maybe about an inch too big.

The bikes I've test ridden recently that felt about the right size were a 60 cm Kona Dew and 58 cm (L) Specialised Sirrus. I also rode the Trek 7.3FX in 20" and 22.5" - both felt good, but the larger one felt slightly better.

I wouldn't say I'm anywhere near an expert, so this is just personal feel.

Hi Andy

I'm 6 foot 7, ride a 24" Galaxy, 23" hybrid, 23" hardtail and 21" full sus, inside leg about 36".

If you go for an old 24" steel racer / tourer you may struggle with standover.
I reckon inside leg length minus 13 or 14 should be about right ?

Cheers for the advice guys, for the record i'm running a 20" cube reaction at the moment but i've always gone for slightly smaller than required after a local bike shop sold me a 24" park-pre years ago and i could never get off it in a hurry!!
