I'd love this sort of thing in the UK. An extra twenty quid a week just for commuting by bike? Why yes please!

I doubt it'd ever happen over here though (but I really wouldn't mind being wrong on this), if only because the same people who find it bad enough we're on the same roads as them would be so outraged over the prospect of their taxes being given to cyclists that they'd kick up a fuss so large it could be seen from space.

My thoughts on this, we move to France, rent out our house buy one over there the same distance from work as that which dr_pink currently commutes [she speaks french and her work is transferrable to France], add in a commute for me and we could be making 600 + Euros per month which will pay most if not all of a mortgage. Stay there until the scheme runs out, sell both houses and car and move to the Netherlands and live happily ever after.
I'm going to have to break this gently to dr_pink.

I wonder if they'd pay me for coming in the long way?! My normal commute is 8 miles each way, but I do 27 in the morning twice a week ^_^

If I thought you were at all serious, I'd post a link to a house for sale in Haute-Saone - a nice couple at Saturday's Market Rasen antiques fair are selling it partially renovated for a dirt-cheap price of ~ £44000. I was almost tempted, but it's HUGE at 378 sq m (we're looking for 100 to 140 sq m), and too far from our preferred area around the Le Mans/Tours/Angers triangle.
