Free screen capture software recommendations

Hi guys

My question is pretty much given in the title...does anyone have any recommendations for free screen capture software? The boy has taken to making videos for youtube about various video games and asked my advice so I wondered if anyone has experience of any good software??

For screen grabs I use Gadwin. Free and very good.

The people I know who do these things use either Xsplit or OBS.

I think Gadwin only does stills. I have set Cnrl F1 to be my trigger. I then drag a rectangle around the bit I want and it saves it as a .JPG

Cheers thanks guys. Yep he records what is happening on screen and talks about what is happening. Will check out the recommendations.

picpic is also good; allows you to capture the whole window...
