One of the reasons the new Garmin 550 (or whatever it's called) appeals to me is that it automatically uploads data via your phone!

Did you notice when it fell off?

Oh balls. Had my 705 fall off once with a tiny amount of dirt stopping the clip securing it. Much less of an issue with the new mounts, but the tabs on the back can snap.

Glad you can get a new one, but its a bugger about the lost ride data.
