Clearly it is beyong the wit of man, or rather Greenwich Council to maintain this vital pedestrian and cycle link under The Thames. The "restoration" is now months overdue, and has so far cost in the region of £11M. And for what? Ply shuttering up the stairs making it awkward for people to pass; lifts were out for a year or two; it was actually shut completely for 6 months, and now they've put up two poxy barrier. Remind me not to hire those tossers Dean & Dyball Civil Engineering.

Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!

So the Woolwich one is open but with no lifts. I thought it was completely closed.

£11m to repair two tunnels, £45 to build one cable car. I wonder how much building a new tunnel would have been.

853blog.com has done many posts about the tunnels and has even had to do freedom of information requests to get past Greenwich council's closing of ranks, inaccurate information, invention of ''hidden structures'' as reasons for the delays, etc.

I've got to the point that I won't do any shopping on the Isle of Dogs because lugging a pannier-laden tourer up 100 steps is simply not worth it. (Had to carry the bike twice this week.) And I don't shop in Greenwich on principle.

Bump....
Going through the tunnel yesterday I noticed that those stupid barriers that cause pedestrian and cyclist traffic jams had been removed. Does any foot tunnel commuter know when they disappeared? I could have sworn that they were still there last week.
