Front Wheel Axle

I got a puncture in the front wheel yesterday and so I removed it to fix it. The wheel has a dynamo hub and roller brake (Both Shimano). Anyway for some reason I tried to turn the axle with my fingers and found I couldn't, so I then tried with a spanner on the axle and it obviously turned but it felt "lumpy" and stiff - thats the only way I can describe it. I know it's not a lot to go on but am I worrying about nothing or is something wrong?

If it's a dyno-hub it's the magnets attracting each other, they give it a sort of 'lumpy' feel
