front wheel question (quite a silly one)

So on Friday I had a visit from the Fairy, and in my rush to get back on the road I put my tire on the opposite way round on the rim than it was originally. Rather than bother my arse taking it off I just swapped the QR skewer around and got on my way.

Is this an okay thing to do on Mavic Askiums? I'm hoping that the way the spokes are arranged isn't direction specific?

Am I worrying over nothing?

Yes, you are. If the tyre's on the 'wrong' way round it makes no difference whatsoever to the bike. Skewer shouldn't make a difference either AFAIK- but I have absolutely no idea why you didn't just put it back the same way...

If the front wheel us put in the wrong way round, it may well cause the cones to tighten up. The RH cone is always screwed to the end of the thread to lock it, while the LH cone is used for adjustment. If reversed, the LH cone now on the RH side may well get itself screwed tighter!! This is a bigger problem than having the tread the wrong way round.

Aksium front wheels are symmetric left and right, and don't have cones since they have sealed cartridge bearings not cup and cone, although preload is adjustable independently on each side, using a locknut system. For the schematic see pg 8 here.

I've done the same and it never even occurred to me it was a potential problem - seems fine anyway. Not a trick you can do on a back wheel though. I had to take the tyre off that again

Yes, if the cones tighten up, then it is like riding with the brakes on!!!!!!!!!!! I know, as it happened to me on a tour!

The cones would only tighten up if their locknuts had come loose and perhaps if the bearing seats were rusty, dry or brindled, allowing the bearings to exert rotational pressure on them.

I stuck my wheel on back to front after a puncture and rode it for a week before I realised the quick release was on the wrong side. In my defence, I am an idiot.
