Frozen pipes

I went back to the midlands for Christmas and came back up north on December 29th.

I'd been worrying that the pipes in my house might have frozen while I was away and sure enough, when I got home and tried to fill the kettle only a trickle of water came from the tap. Evidently the pipes were 99% frozen. There wasn't much I could do because the pipes come straight into the house through the kitchen wall and the pipes are buried under huge stone slabs in my back yard. There's nowt to lag.

Never mind, the cold snap would probably only last a couple more days and then the pipes would thaw out...

So there I was 3 whole weeks later on January 20th thinking how the pipes had been frozen for an awfully long time. I was talking to my ex and told her that I was getting really fed up with the problem with the water supply. She asked me if the stop cock was fully open. I was about to ridicule her for asking such a daft question when I had a sudden awful slow-motion mental replay of crouching down under the kitchen sink on December 22nd to turn the water off. I didn't want to risk burst pipes while I was away did I?

I came home to check and sure enough I'd turned the damn thing 99% off but had left it open just enough to allow a small amount of water to leak through - aaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

I'm never going to live that one down! :girl::blush::laugh:

So what have you done that's as stupid as that?

Sorry Colin, you ain't gonna get anyone who has done anything as near as stupid as that! :girl::laugh::laugh::laugh::biggrin:

You muppet

What are you going to be like when you get to my age?
I remember once when I was supposed to be doing ta driving demonstration with the IAM to some trainees, going to take them in my husband's car, which I'd borrowed. I turned off the immobilizer switch, tried to start car - nothing happened. Silly me, had turned immobilizer ON, so wouldn't start. It took a while to live that down too!

About 10 years ago I managed to pebbledash my car with paint stripper, the day after I brought it home from being resprayed:eek:

I had to work miracles with a touch up stick and the powers that be still don`t know now:blush::girl:

Have you told your ex?
It was tempting not to, but she made a nice birthday meal for me so I owned up, by way of thanks! She was gracious enough not to gloat too much... ;)

Campfire and speccy1 - ha ha, I think they are as bad as my goof!
