Garage Cycle Racks

any suggestions please on cycle-racks for the garage at home?

i have 4 cycles in total at home, incl my tiny tots'.. i would like to mount them vertically in the garage, as i used to do in my previous office basement bike park.

this would be the most space saving would give direct access to each bike.

Large wall hooks to hold front or rear wheel. That's all you would need.

Nothing stopping them flap about horizontally then though?

The purpose made brackets have a tyre groove built in to minimise this. Looking at some myself and varying models available, all under a tenner.

Not really, I have 4 of the bike hut ones. Pretty robust albeit the rubber cover for the arm has come off a couple of them.

I also d-lock each bike through the wheel-must remind myself to but a large chain and get some wall anchors for more security.

I was told that you shouldnt leave a bike on its wheels for to long because it will lead to out of shape wheels, so wouldnt hanging them by a hook be worse.

I already have my new roadie on a horizontal bracket, but going to get the verticals for the MTB's, so not as worried.

The logic behind hanging a bike by its wheel is that the wheel is a strong point of the bike and the weight is being taken by that strong point, as opposed to being taken on the tyres which, if left for some time, could indeed go out of shape.

I have a 5-hook wall-mounted rack, something like this, which works fine - and I've just read a useful tip to alternate the bike wheels front up, back up etc, to save a bit of space . I have 5 bikes hanging on the hooks, 1x Hybrid, 1x ladies' racer, 1x child's MTB, 1x youth's hard-tail downhill type, 1x .. something else ... All are fine and there is no sign of the frame pulling out of the wall; mind you, it's a garage wall and the fixings are deliberately strong.
