My ancient Cateye has finally given up the ghost which has given me the excuse to upgrade to a new toy (yay!), preferably one including GPS in order that I can broaden my range of routes away from just the old tried and tested ones.

Having seen some good reviews of the 810 and with the price dropping ahead of the launch of the 1000 (and not being sold on the additional benefits of the latter given the significant price premium) I'm minded to buy one of these.

However, prior to doing so, can I ask what people's experience is of the ease of downloading maps, and which are the best sites to do this from?

Thanks

Hi.
I have an edge 800. You can buy maps that are pre-loaded onto a micro sd card; but they are a bit pricey.
Or, as I and many others do, you can use open source mapping. Just google it and you'll find it.
And it's free!

I managed to get full official EU maps for the 800 for under £30 on eBay - SD card just slots in and away you go  Looks like I got lucky though as RRP is £75ish! Cheaper to buy the package generally
